Insights¶
Insights are short, calm observations about your own money. They are drawn only from your own entries, they describe what we notice, and they leave every decision to you. They are not financial advice and they are never predictions about the markets.
1. What an insight looks like¶
Each insight tells you what we noticed, gives a little context so it feels normal, and offers at most one optional next step. For example:
Dining is a little above usual. Dining is about 18% above your recent average so far, ₹22k against ₹9k. One higher stretch is common, especially around festivals and travel.
The sentence uses rounded figures. The exact amounts sit in the small chips under it, and each chip opens the entries behind the number.
We lead with what is going well when there is something true to say. We never compare you with other people, only with your own past.
2. Where you see them¶
- Dashboard: at most three at a time, loaded just after the page appears.
- Budgets, Expenses, Subscriptions, Loans, Accounts, Income, Goals, Transfers, Holdings, Capital events and Calendar pages: a short strip with at most two insights about that page, only when there is something to say.
- The bell: at most one new insight a day, in addition to the alerts you already get (bills, budgets, goals).
- Push: at most two a week, only for time-sensitive things such as a deposit about to mature or a limit about to be reached, and never between 9 pm and 8 am.
- Analytics: the plain sentences under the totals and on the Cashflow and Net worth tabs (what you kept, your biggest cost, what moved your net worth, which categories keep rising) come from the same rules.
- Year in Review: a "What we noticed" card in your story. It shows income-based figures, so it is only shared with the Money story, and it hides with the amounts.
- Monthly report and weekly email (Pro): the monthly report gains a short "Worth knowing" section, and a weekly email lists up to three insights, only when there is something new. Switch the email to daily or off in Settings, or use the unsubscribe link in any email. Insights about debt, a shortfall or a long gap in income are never emailed.
New to TrackMyRupee? Until there is enough history, the panel says We are still learning your patterns instead of guessing. A few weeks of entries are usually enough.
Insights follow your salary cycle and your Capital Events choices, the same way the rest of the app does.
3. What you can do with one¶
Open the three dots on an insight:
- Not now hides it for a week.
- Dismiss hides it for that period. If it comes up again next period, it is a new observation.
- This was helpful or This was not helpful teaches us what to say less of. Two "not helpful" votes on the same kind of insight silence it for you for 90 days. We keep only the yes or no, never free text.
Following the next step (for example Review the limit) counts as having dealt with it.
4. Your settings¶
Open Settings → Profile and scroll to Insights:
- Turn insights on or off altogether.
- Choose the topics you want (budgets, expenses, cash flow, accounts, recurring payments, income, goals, investing, holdings, capital events, the calendar).
- Choose how often we mention things: normally (at most one a day in the bell), quietly (at most one a week, no push) or only on the pages.
- Switch push on or off.
- Choose the email digest (Pro): weekly, daily or never.
- Say how many months of spending in the bank feels like a comfortable cushion to you (six unless you choose otherwise). Insights about your cash compare it with that number and never with anyone else's.
Insights about loans, credit cards and a long gap in your income are written extra gently, are never pushed, and have no share button. Insights about holdings only describe your mix; they never say what to buy or sell.
Insights in the bell and push are open to every plan. The email digest and the monthly report section are part of Pro.
